Recreation Respite Assistant - Part Time

POSITION:   Recreation Respite Assistant                 
                   Part Time, Fridays & Saturdays

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Part-Time Recreation Respite Assistant will provide assistance and supervision to individuals and families enrolled in the Respite Referral Program.  Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Providing supervision and all direct hands on care required to maintain safety and comfort of the individual in the absence of family members.

2. Accompany individuals on trips into community setting.

3. Providing assistance with mobility and community orientation.

4. Acting as a role model to individuals and their social skills.

5. Reporting incidents and accidents in accordance with agency policy.

6. Attending all required training programs in order to increase and develop necessary work skills and to maintain certification in required areas.

7. Following all policies and procedures.

8. Maintaining a positive relationship with parents, registered individuals and other staff.

9. Transporting individuals to community outings, appointments and recreational activities as needed.

10. Keeping supervisor and/or family informed of any health and safety issues as needed.

11. Advocating for the rights of the developmentally disabled.

12. Performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

13. Foster and promote skills leading to independent living.


- Good interpersonal skills.

- Strong ability to work with families.

- Obtaining and maintaining certification in CPR, First Aid and SCIP.

- A valid driverís license acceptable to the agency insurance carrier and a good driving record.

- Responsible for following agency safety and health policies, procedures and rules.


- High School Graduate with some knowledge of or experience working with the developmentally disabled preferred.


A combination of education and experience that in the opinion of the reviewing agency meets or exceeds the above standards of the program.
